Basal cell carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma (basalioma) is the most common skin cancer and the most common form of cancer overall. Basal cell carcinomas usually arise from the hair follicles found near the base of the epidermis or the upper dermis.

Squamous-cell carcinoma (prickle-cell carcinoma) is the second-most common form of malignant skin cancer in Switzerland after basal-cell cancer. What makes squamous-cell cancer so problematic is that, unlike basal cell cancer, it can also metastasize in other organs.
